Moneybrother about v-JAYS

Tuesday, 17 November 2009 13:32 Filed under Words about... by Daniel Andersson.

Anders "Moneybrother" Wendin brought his v-JAYS headphones with him to Africa and yesterday we got the verdict:

"Lurarna har en skön design som inte bara gör att de ser coola ut. De sitter skönt och stänger ute oönskat ljud tex på flygresa. Dessutom läcker de inte så mycket ljud så du kan lyssna högt på vad som helst."

Translation: "The phones have a nice design and does not only look cool - They fit comfortably too." Anders says, who probably kept the whole airplane awake for 20hrs Africa and back playing his v-JAYS.

For those of you who weren't aboard - Here's his headphone playlist:

Forever - Explorers Club
Anglo Girl Desire - Radio Birdman
Rock 'N' Roll Is King - Electric Light Orchestra
Smokescreen - Desperate Bicycles
1984 - The Wings
Then You Can tell me Goodbye - Casino
On And On - Dave Mason & Cass Elliot
(Det är då) Jag känner att jag behöver dig - Lena Ericsson
Dream Sweet Dreams About Me - Glen Campbell
Gloria Walker - My Precious Love
I-94 - Radio Birdman
Pokerkväll i Vårbygård - Florence Valentin
Our Life Is Not A Movie Or Maybe - Okkervil River
Make it Fast, Make it Slow - Rob Ghana Soundz
Fit But You Know It - The Streets
La Grange - ZZ Top

And thanks! It's a really good playlist.

Earlier this year he released his fifth album Real Control as Moneybrother. A great soul / rock album! 10 new songs with the same brilliantly hoarse voice. Listen to it and his earlier records at Spotify here.

If you're in Germany/Austria - Go see him at his December tour! Should be really good too!

...and while you're at it, don't forget to pick up some cans of his ecological Moneybrother tomato soup in the merch.

v-JAYS can't be here today but he wants to tell you he is very happy for this new award! Thanks!

Quote from Smartson.se:

Sound quality? There's a lot of it! Really great sound with rich bass and clean treble and a really good midrange. I understand they cost a bit more due to the sound quality.

Kiss it!

Take a look at Touchmyapps.com and a wonderful full out review on v-JAYS. We wish you all a wonderful weekend. Kisses from JAYS R&D!

Quoting Touchmyapps:

Conclusion

Grab ‘em! The v-Jays is priced attractively enough that it warrants a buy. Is it the best-sounding headphone in the world? No, but for the price, it is certainly among the very best in a competitive class, and considering the market, one of the most balanced hardware releases. If you like bass, the v-Jays will satisfy unless your tastes drop to subwoofer levels, or you prefer less lean and more flab. Mid and high frequencies are also very good and only slightly recessed in comparison; indeed, the v-Jays may be one of the most realistic listens in the sub 100$ market. It is also made better than most of its competitors, giving it an edge or two on offerings from Sennheiser, Koss, and Ultrasone. What it lacks is a carrying case – an item which would make this headphone one of the easiest kisses at TMA. As it is, the v-Jays is too strong a contender to sit happily with its many peers in the Grab category, but it perfect. Good on ya Jays!

Fibes, Oh Fibes are back. Back in a smaller number but better than ever before! Last month they released their third studio album 1987. And it's really good!

Here's Fibes's own words about the new album...

"The whole album is a tribute to the ultimate year of pop music, 1987. Itʼs about coming to terms with our musical past but also about finding the way back to the feeling you possesed as a kid, when you heard that particular song for the first time and it really changed your life. A period in life when everything you discovered actually surfaced for the very first time, being all naive and convinced that you would last forever. We simply wanted to make the best album youʼve heard since you were a kid."

After having listened to our v-JAYS headphones they sent us these sweet comments...

"Seriously, the v-JAYS are somewhat of the nicest we've tested in the smaller headphones-category. Bass, mids, highs and luxury in a sweet mix. We're sitting in the studio reveling... Insanely well done!"

Fibes also posted us their Top-10-headphone playlist:

1. Marc Cohn - Walking in Memphis
2. Fibes, Oh Fibes - Love will always find a way
3. Miike Snow - Silvia
4. Vanessa Carlton - A thousand miles
5. Cock Robin - Just around the corner
6. Fleetwood Mac - Dreams
7. Deportees - When they come
8. Rick Springfield - Love somebody
9. Def Leppard - Animal
10. Johnny hates Jazz - Shattered dreams

Listen to it on Spotify here.

And now on Friday 23rd they're playing in Sthlm and on Saturday 24th here in Västerås. We'll see you there!

Binaural audio effects

Monday, 19 October 2009 07:11 Filed under Music by Daniel Andersson.

This is actually a rather old audio clip and most of you've already heard it before but it's still fun listening to.

The 3D effect is made with a special recording technique called binaural. Instead of recording with set up microphones everything is recorded with a dummy head. Two microphones (one for each ear) are put inside the head  which has authentic ears with auditory canals. The sound will then bounce inside the external ear exactly as it would on a real person and reach the microphones with a small time difference them between depending on where the sound source is located in the room. When the recordings are played back your brain will then interpret these time and amplitude differences between the left and right ear speakers as if you would actually stand inside the very room it was recorded in.

To get the binaural effect to work you need a pair of earphones / headphones as it won't work with ordinary speakers.

So here it is - The Virtual barbershop of Manuel and Luigi. Close your eyes and enjoy!

There are also music recordings made this way however the effect is not always as obvious.

Tchad Blake is a record producer who occasionally uses this technique. Pearl Jam has a couple of tracks recorded binaural by him on their Binaural album and the 'Chapman stick'-playing Tony Levin took the technique even further on his From the caves of the iron mountain album where Tchad recorded the trio playing inside a waterfilled cave walking around inside the cave, sometimes out in the water, wearing the microphones inside his ears.
