Deportees about v-JAYS

Ever since the new Deportees album "Under the Pavement - the Beach" was released it has been spinning quite alot here at the JAYS R&D office. Seems like isolating themselves in an old Kung Fu dojo for a year up in Umeå (northern part of Sweden) paid off cause it's definately one of the best albums of the year in our opinion.

They've been listening in on our v-JAYS headphones too and they seemed to appreciate them.

"Very stylish and good looking, and they sound really good too. Very powerful bass... We like!"

And here's their top ten v-JAYS headphones playlist!

1. Graham Nash - Simple Man
2. Talking Heads - Once in a lifetime (från stop making sense live skivan)
3. Steve Reich - Section I (från music for 18 musicians)
4. Bon Iver - Woods (från Blood Bank EP:n)
5. Willie Nelson/Calexico - Señor
6. Kate Bush - Running up those hills
7. The Roches - Hammond Song
8. Discovery - So Insane
9. Dirty Projectors - No Intention
10. Beach Boys - God only knows

You can listen directly at Spotify here. This is yet another great playlist and the Bon Iver track Woods is an office favourite as well. Wonderful!

And tomorrow, instead of going to that last crayfish party of the year or owl in front of the TV at home - You should go to Uppsala where Deportees will be playing live. Should be great!

Have a great weekend everybody!

Small but Big!

Friday, 11 September 2009 13:19 Filed under News by Peter Cedmer.

v-JAYS has again proved its skills in competition with AKG K450 and Sennheiser HD238 in the Norwegian Magazine Lyd & Bilde. v-JAYS got the Test Winner Award and he thanks a lot for that and hope to meet more curious ears in the near future.

Quote:
Jays tiny headphones are really cheap and really great. They are the smallest headphones in the test, but sound far better than you would imagine. For the price the v-JAYS are excellent and have a living and engaging dynamic sound. With these on your head it never becomes boring.

To Norway and to everyone else. Have a great weekend and don't get bored!

This week’s Swedish lesson comes from Fredrik Thordendal, guitar player in the genius Swedish metal band Meshuggah.

We sent him a pair of our v-JAYS headphones which he spoke of as:

(Sv) "Fan vilka underbara ljudfordon!" - (En) "Damn such wonderful sound vehicles!"

“…comfortable and amazingly good sound. I didn’t even think it was possible to get bass as good as this in such small open cans actually... Thanks!!!”

Thank You Fredrik, and what can I say - we just love being in the sound vehicle business!

Fredrik’s been a member of Meshuggah since it was formed in Umeå 1987 and has been playing the guts out of his 7- and 8-strings guitars ever since. Meshuggah is constantly evolving and pushing the envelope for each new album release with their innovative and extremely technical music. They’re one of Sweden’s most prominent metal bands and has been on US tours with both Tool and Slayer. So if you haven’t listened to these five metal workers before – It’s about time!

We also got a playlist from Fredrik to share with you guys. Too bad all tracks weren’t available on Spotify but you can listen to about half of them there anyway. The full list is shown below:

Devin Townsend - Ki - Terminal
Allan Holdsworth - Sand - 4:15 Bradford Executive
Gojira - From Mars To Sirius - Ocean Planet
Decapitated - Organic Hallucinosis - Flash - B(L)Ack
The Cardigans - Long Gone Before Daylight - Communication
Scarve - Irradiant - Mirthless Perspectives
Squarepusher - Go Plastic - Go! Plastic
Strapping Young Lad - City - Oh My Fucking God
Aphex Twin - Drukqs - Vordhosbn
Autechre - Chiastic Slide - Cipater
Battles - Mirrored - Atlas
Trans Am - Futureworld - Futureworld
Coldplay - X & Y - Speed Of Sound
Cornelius - Sensuous - Sensuous
Ektomorf - Destroy - I Know Them

It's a great list! And quoting himself, Devin Townsend’s Terminal is just “awesome”.

Oh, and don’t forget to check out the Meshuggah website!

Rigo just sent his regards from Cuba!

“Dom låter mycket bra!” (They sound really good!) he wrote.

Rigo who started his career in the Swedish hip-hop group The Latin Kings become even more well known when he started the band Infinite Mass which soon became one of Sweden’s best touring live hip-hop acts. Today he is also performing as a solo artist as well as working with his reggae label Topaz records and the Topaz Soundsystem.

This autumn you will most likely see him on TV as he will be leading his choir through the Swedish tv-show Körslaget (Clash of the Choirs) and on October 14th his new solo album Bad Man will be released.

Rigo also posted us his v-JAYS playlist which you can have a listen to with Spotify right here. The tracks are:

First of all, thank you a lot for the all the great music advices! After many hours of listening; me, Daniel and Stefan have chosen one band each that we liked the most. The nominations are as follows and the winners of our c-JAYS contest will shortly be contacted.

J.Tillman - Vacilando Territory Blues.
J.Tillman's (drummer in Fleet Foxes) Vacilando Territory Blues is a dynamic recorded album with up front acoustic guitars and vocals which fits the sound signature of c-JAYS perfectly. J.Tillman is also a perfect match with the Swedish autumn that just arrived. I like it a lot! / Peter

Winner is: Henrik Larsson

Valery Gore - Valery Gore
Fiona Apple's sister? You can really hear Valery has lots of energy coming through in her piano playing and vibrating vocals. Truly a talanted artist that I really enjoyed listening to! / Stefan

Winner is: Steve

The Crystal Method - Divided By Night
It's always fun discovering new great music, especially in genres you usually don't listen to. The Crystal Method was a great finding and I love listen to them in our c-JAYS / v-JAYS headphones as well as in my HiFi system back home. / Daniel

Winner is: Carl

JAYS handed out headphones at the Polar Music Prize

Wednesday, 02 September 2009 08:55 Filed under News by Daniel Andersson.

On the 31st of August, Peter Gabriel and José Antonio Abreu received the Polar Music Prize at the Stockholm Concert hall by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf. The celebrations continued afterwards at the Grand Hôtel where a banquet was held in their honour with over 500 invited guests. Swedish artists such as Salem al Fakir, Martin Stenmarck, Uno Svenningsson, Maia Hirasawa, Andreas Johnson, Moto Boy, Eric Gadd as well as the music school Lilla Akademien gave performances to celebrate the two laureates and entertain during the day and at the evening's banquet.

JAYS was supporting the event by handing out our v-JAYS headphones to all guests attending the banquet at the Grand Hôtel. We had a great time being there and it was truly a pleasure discussing music and sound with so many enthusiastic music lovers.

Finally, we would like to give our bests to the two worthy winners of this year's Polar Music Prize, José Antonio Abreu and Peter Gabriel!

And to everyone who was there: Hope you had a great evening and hope you enjoy your new v-JAYS headphones.

You can find more pictures from the price ceremony and the festivities here at the official Polar Music Prize website.

King Diamond's Andy LaRocque about v-JAYS

Sunday, 30 August 2009 14:18 Filed under Words about... by Daniel Andersson.

Andy LaRocque, guitarist in King Diamond since the band was formed, seems to find our v-JAYS quite loud..

Besides playing guitars in King Diamond (as well as having played with At the Gates and In Flames) he has produced over a hundred albums at his own recording studio Sonic Train Studios which he started a couple of years back in Varberg, Sweden.

"I really like the v-JAYS" he says, "They have a good overall sound. They're very open and they're handling the low frequencies very well. They're price worthy phones." (or prisvärda lurar as we say in Sweden).
